Minicards

They arrived today -
a little late in ordering
but adorable none-the-less!
Subtle perhaps, but I have a message to get across
 and it's not about me.
The message?
All will be revealed on Friday...

"Tomorrow is gonna be better"

I am ever hopeful that "tomorrow is gonna be better";
Ever the optimist, ever full of hope...

"Sometimes its easier to hide away
When the winter comes and its shorter day
I know that dark clouds wont stay
Tomorrow is gonna be better

Sometimes its easier to hit the road
When the world has given you a heavy load
If you stay and face it I know
Tomorrow is gonna be better"

Ostrich-like Head in Sand

Where DID the saying come from;

With my head in the sand, like an ostrich, I am stumbling through these recent days.  I bump into D occasionally, his head is in the sand too, both weighed down by the day to day reality of marriage, children, life, work and disability too.  It's easier not to lift my head out; it's quiet in the sand, reality is a far off place.  I can protect myself in the sand - I can't see or hear or fear the world around me.  My feelings, my emotions quieten and anything - and everything -  is still possible.  Sometimes though I do take a risk and, momentarily, pop my head up...  It's overwhelming: life blinds me, tears fall, anger and sadness crush me and without blinking an eye I bury my head once more.  So, miss ostrich, I don't care where the phrase comes from but I understand; sometimes it's easier to keep your head in the sand...

Superdad!

He's amazing!

He's loving and giving too!

He holds my girls tight
and
shows them the world.

He makes them
laugh and giggle and chortle,
imaginations running wild.

He holds our hands
and
loves us dear.

We couldn't ever ask for more.

Happy Father's Day, D

Thankathon

Thank you to Sarah from the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign for phoning last week to say

"thank you!"

for volunteering for the campaign, recognising that it was National Volunteers Week.

It's lovely to be recognised in such a personal way and she made me smile a huge big smile.

So thank you Sarah for taking the time to phone - it certainly made my day!

Flowergirl

niamh aged 3 in my flowergirl dress from years ago

I remember being a flower girl
or perhaps the photographs
serve as a reminder,
evoking memories long forgotten.
I remember my granddad,
kilted and proud of his youngest daughter.
I remember the bible,
cloaked in delicate flowers.
And I remember the moment
I saw my aunt,
my godmummy,
veil in place;
the bride,
resplendent,
beautiful
and
graceful.
I remember the drive
to the reception,
passing my granny and my little brother,
waving from a window
as we drove by.
Happy memories,
they serve us well
over the years,
don't they?
I fondly remember being a flower girl;
I hope my girls will too.
